Week Three June 14, 16: Opening-line drafts from students (four lines to open sonnet or three lines to open villanelle); Workshop; The Watchers; Gates 2-3; Wednesday class cancelled for instructor's illness: hearty and thorough online student responses anticipated from all

Week Four June 21: Plans for next three classes, visiting professors/poets [ASSIGNMENT: FOR EACH OF THE THREE VISITORS, SEND BY E-MAIL OR NICENET MESSAGE TO DR. Grade proportions for written work: three poems = 50%; response writing, mostly online = 25% (continuous [weekly], thoughtful engagement with topics at hand, including classmates' responses); final examination = 25%
