Highlight, as advertised during pre-registration: In this course, we will examine short fiction by Sherman Alexie, Charles Baxter, Ann Beattie, and Nathan Englander, as well as selections from Paula Geyh's Postmodern American Fiction. Our workshop-collaborative purposes are to read well, talk well, write well, revise and edit well. Every student and the professor will be expected to complete strong drafts of three [lately changed to TWO] stories or one novella.

Texts:

Alexie, Sherman. The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven. New York: HarperPerennial, 1994. ISBN 0-06-097624-1.

June 13: Your assigned Beattie story (see "Ongoing Bibliography") and her eight new stories in Park City; Sherman Alexie; Charles Baxter; notes on first drafts from last class; discuss and read aloud our drafts from last class (partners to forward, for posting, notes on each writer's comments); in small groups, edit COILS notes for re-posting as coils2.htm
